Emotions at work

My recent training topic, on how to become better leader, was area of "emotional intelligence". It is very nice topic and here are some of my thoughts:

Being a leader doesn’t mean you can’t show emotions.

Allocate a moment to reflect on your emotions. Identify what's beneficial about them and what’s not. You might discover the need for a discussion, or realise the advantage of reorganising your work priorities.

The goal is to find a middle way between genuine self-expression and overwhelming others with your emotions. Keep in mind that you are in a professional setting ... therefore behave accordingly. Learn to express vulnerability in a controlled manner and practice focused ways of sharing your feelings.

If you’re under pressure and can’t be as open and supportive as you wish, inform your team beforehand. Alerting them that you might respond briefly in emails or be less accessible temporarily can help manage their expectations and prevent them from feeling offended.

What are you thoughts about emotions at work: should be suppress them or should we share them in a proper way.

Creativity. Passion. Vision.

As someone new to management, I am excited to be leading a team of creative software engineers, testers, designers and tech-writers towards our common goals. My leadership style is defined by transparency and a willingness to work alongside my team members to fully understand their perspectives. Communication is key, and I make sure that all team members are informed about the project’s direction and progress. When not working, you can often find me mountain biking in the trails near my home. It’s a great way to unwind and prepare for new challenges.
